Wellington City Council
We're looking for a skilled communicator to join our WCC team as a Communications Advisor.
Mō tēnei tūranga - About this role
WCC's Communications team works to help support, enhance, and celebrate what Wellingtonians love about Wellington: we're a resilient city with strong communities, wild and beautiful spaces, and a creative heart.
Our job is to build trust and confidence in the Council through good communication, keeping Wellingtonians informed and engaged, encouraging people to participate in decision-making, and sharing the stories that make Pōneke unique.
Our City Projects Communications team is responsible for communications about our city precinct upgrades, building resilience projects, water and waste renewals, and transport system improvements.
As a Communications Advisor, you'll contribute to the design and delivery of strategic communications plans, influencing and supporting cross-Council initiatives.
You'll collaborate with our wider Communications and Creative team including content creators, social media specialists, media relations experts and our creative and brand team. You can draw on the skills of your colleagues in the areas where you want to learn and grow, and share your own expertise to help us build our collective ability.

We are looking for:
· Communications experience - you'll have two plus years of experience in a comms team or a similar environment
· Proactive mindset - a self-starter who is happy to pick up a variety of tasks, solve problems as they come up and find a way through when things are ambiguous
· Excellent writer - ability to draft lively, compelling copy and distil complex ideas into plain English
· Strong relationship builder - skilled at forming productive relationships across an organisation along with sharp influencing skills
· Strategic thinker - an ability to see the big picture, cut through complex challenges and recommend clever solutions
· Resilience - an ability to persevere when projects get challenging
· Committed to te ao Māori and te reo Māori - willing to grow your knowledge and competency and help us achieve our Tūpiki Ora Strategy
· Good vibes - a 'glass half-full' attitude and a team player who loves to collaborate
