Independent Board Chairperson - National Hauora Coalition Trust
Tēnā koutou rau rangatira mā, i te āhuatanga o te kaupapa whakakī tūranga nei, e mihi atu nei, kia ora huihui mai tātou katoa.
National Hauora Coalition (NHC) Trust is a Māori-owned organisation committed to achieving better health and social outcomes for whānau. At its heart is Mana Whānau, Whānau Ora, prosperous whānau living well, creating opportunities that enable whānau to develop and achieve their own dreams and aspirations.
Established in 2009, NHC has grown well beyond its origins in primary healthcare. Today NHC’s work spans health, social services, commissioning, investment and innovation, underpinned by whānau-centred approaches designed to create meaningful and measurable outcomes. NHC Trust, as sole shareholder of National Hauora Coalition Limited, is seeking expressions of interest for its next Independent Board Chair, a significant governance leadership opportunity at an important point in the Trust’s evolution.
The mandate for the incoming Chair is clear: to help consolidate and strengthen what has been built, while identifying and securing opportunities that will enable NHC to grow its long-term impact for whānau. Our client is seeking an active and engaged Chair with strong governance credibility, commercial and financial acumen, sound judgement and trusted relationships.
Importantly, this is not a passive governance appointment. We are seeking an entrepreneurial, decisive and solutions-focused leader who is culturally grounded and trusted across Te Ao Māori, while equally confident operating across government, commercial, health, social and community environments.
The successful candidate will understand and manage risk without being constrained by it, lead a cohesive and high-performing Board, enable robust and constructive debate, and build strong relationships across the Trust, Board, Chief Executive and wider stakeholder environment. They will bring proven Chair or senior governance experience, strong commercial and strategic capability, emotional intelligence, integrity and independence of thought, alongside an understanding of te reo me ōna tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Experience in health, social services or related sectors will be valued; however, we are equally interested in the depth and transferability of your governance, commercial, strategic and relationship experience.
Te Tono | How to Apply
To request the candidate information kete or arrange a confidential kōrero, please contact Heather Walker at Mana Recruitment heather@manarecruitment.co.nz quoting Ref: NHCT58.
Expressions of Interest should include a current CV and a cover letter outlining your interest in the appointment and the governance experience and capability you would bring to the role.
Expressions of Interest close: Monday 21 September 2026 at 5.00pm
