We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Advisor, Commercial Procurement to join our team on a fixed-term basis. This role is critical in supporting Wellington City Council's major projects, with an initial focus on delivering procurement expertise for high-profile initiatives. You will play a key role in shaping procurement strategies, driving commercial outcomes, and ensuring best practice approaches across the organisation.
This is a 12 month fixed-term, full-time opportunity (to end of January 2027).
Āu ake mahi - What you'll do
As Senior Advisor, you will lead the development and implementation of procurement strategies and frameworks that reflect modern, innovative approaches, while identifying opportunities to rationalise procurement, improve supplier relationships, and achieve cost efficiencies. You will provide strategic commercial advice to budget managers and senior leaders, enabling better decision-making during the planning and design phases of projects.
In addition to procurement, you will support the Commercial Partnerships team as we focus on Brilliant Basics at Wellington City Council. This will include improvements to the monitoring and reporting of contract management practices. This includes supporting the implementation of a refreshed approach to procurement and the improved contract management system. As an experienced procurement advisor your insights will help optimise supplier performance and deliver expected commercial outcomes.
Ngā tohu me ngā wheako - Qualifications and experience
To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong background in procurement and commercial management within complex environments. A relevant tertiary qualification in business, commerce, or a related field is essential, along with at least six years' experience in procurement, contract management, or commercial advisory roles. Experience providing commercial advice to senior leaders and proven capability in end-to-end procurement processes is critical. Membership of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) or similar professional body is desirable.
