About of the Business:
Salvation Army Social Housing (SASH) is a registered Community Housing Provider currently providing housing for over 500 whanau. Our aim that all SASH Whanau have a warm, dry and safe place to live within a caring community.
 
What will your responsibilities be:
  • To contribute to the overall mission of The Salvation Army in New Zealand of "Caring for People, Transforming Lives, and Reforming Society, through God's Power."
  • This role will do this by providing emotional, spiritual, and relational support to whanau and staff within Salvation Army Social Housing (SASH), fostering a sense of wellbeing, dignity, and hope.
  • The Chaplain contributes to building a positive community culture within the village and supports whanau/tenants in sustaining their housing, personal wellbeing, and faith journeys.
  • The chaplain will be pro-active in seeking innovative ways to deepen SASH's missional impact.
  • This is to be done in conjunction with maintaining a healthy relationship with the local corps for best missional outcomes for our whanau.
  • Attend planning days, staff meetings and training.
 
Our ideal candidate will:
  • Completion of the Foundations for Chaplaincy course or equivalent immediately on starting if haven't already done so.
  • Relevant pastoral care, theology, or social service qualifications (preferred).
  • Be willing to complete further training if required.
  • Experience in or understanding of the work of social agencies and their impact/ support of Whanau in Community Housing.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing emotional or spiritual support
  • Ability to work respectfully across diverse cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Capacity to respond compassionately in crisis situations
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches
  • Commitment to The Salvation Army's mission and Christian values
  • Ministry of Justice vetting response satisfactory to The Salvation Army will be required.
  • Ability to relate to people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Ability to interpret complex information.
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands and schedule work
  • Taking initiative where required.
  • Ability to influence others.
  • Sympathetic towards the Mission of The Salvation Army.

Hour of work: Permanent/Part time and 24 hoursto be worked 8:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday.

The starting salary for this role will fall between $29.00 per hour and $35.00 per hour.
