He aha te tūranga - About the role:
Our Kāhui Mauaka team provide strategic cultural advice to Hato Hone St John to build cultural competency, partner with trust and confidence with iwi and Māori communities in the spirit of mana motuhake and help innovate and codesign initiatives that will enable our iwi partners to deliver their vision for equity in action.
Supporting the Aka Matua workstream, this role will manage operational aspects of Māori health initiatives within Ambulance Operations and Clinical Services, ensuring alignment with the Waka Manaaki strategy and Clinical strategy.
The role is focused on strategic interpretation, and follow-through via tactical execution at a national level. This will include working alongside other Strategic and National Operations Managers to engage with external health stakeholders to change or create new methods of service delivery (including advocation for additional or refocused resource) and carry out/support implementation of key health equity focused initiatives.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide expert advice in prehospital care to improve Māori Health outcomes in the Clinical Services and Ambulance Operations settings.
- Contribute proactively as a member of the Ambulance Service team through putting forward recommendations to enhance service; and attending and actively contributing to appropriate meetings.
- Act as a key advocate and representative for the interests of tikanga Māori and Te Ara Hato Hone within Ambulance Operations and across Hato Hone St John by being a member of the SLT.
- Support Ambulance Operations and Clinical Services managers in their development of cultural competence and ensure that there is strong iwi, hapū links within the relevant takiwā.
- Be conversant with, and have expertise in the findings of, the Pūrongo Whakamutunga (2020), particularly around the deprivation, geographic differences, and heath loss/health outcomes data.
Ko wai koe - About you:
- Post graduate study in related field, i.e. social work, humanities, or evidence of relevant cultural learnings / integration within field.
- Registered Health Professional with an APC or alternatively Authority to Practise (ATP) of Paramedic is preferred.
- Proficiency in Te Reo me ōna tikanga is preferred.
- Proven experience at a strategic management level, with the ability to focus on operational detail and execute strategy, informed by a strong understanding of clinical matters and specific in-depth knowledge of the challenges facing Māori.
