Mō te Whakahaere About the Organisation:

Manaaki Tāngata | Victim Support is here 24/7 for people directly affected by crime and traumatic events, including their whānau and witnesses.

Operating 24/7 with a team of nearly 200 kaimahi they work alongside individuals, whānau, and communities to support people to feel informed, empowered, safe and able to cope with the impact. They are committed to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and ensuring that Māori can access culturally responsive services that honour their identity and values.

Manaaki Tāngata | Victim Support’s mission is to ensure that all victims of crime feel safe, welcome, and empowered to use their services.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role:

As the Pou Whirinaki - GM Māori, you will lead their journey in integrating Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao Māori into all aspects of their work. You’ll be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and guide the implementation of Te Whiringa (Te Tiriti strategy) while establishing and fostering relationships with iwi, hapū, and key stakeholders. Alongside this, you’ll enhance culturally responsive support for Māori affected by crime and traumatic events.

With Māori overrepresented as victims of crime, this role offers a unique opportunity to join an organisation committed to equity for all victims and to make a real impact alongside a passionate and dedicated team.

As a mainstream organisation, Manaaki Tāngata | Victim Support acknowledges there is still much work to do. But their goal is simple: to ensure Māori feel safe seeking support and receive culturally appropriate care when they do. There is important work ahead, but the team is ready—and this role presents a powerful opportunity to create meaningful and lasting change.

Mōu | About You:

You will have deep connections with Māori communities, combined with your leadership strength, to enable you to drive meaningful cultural change. You will bring:
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles at an organisational level.
  • A strong understanding of te ao Māori, tikanga Māori and competency in te reo Māori.
  • Proven experience across senior leadership, relationship management and providing strategic and operational advice.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs of Māori impacted by crime and traumatic events (beneficial).
  • Strong networks within te ao Māori with experience in building relationships with iwi, hapū and Māori organisations.
