Mō mātou | About Us
Awarua Whānau Services delivers kaupapa Māori services supporting the hauora of our whānau. A Rūnaka entity, we serve communities across Rakiura, Bluff, Invercargill, Otago, and Southland.
From our grass-roots foundation, we are now a structured, strategically focused organisation with approximately 38 staff. We provide essential services including tamariki-ora, nursing outreach, vaccination programs, supported bail and youth support services. There are significant opportunities for growth and continued innovation, and our Board and Rūnaka have ambitious aspirations.

This is an exceptional opportunity to lead our organisation through its next phase of growth. We are seeking a visionary Kaihautū who can honour our legacy while driving strategic expansion, innovative transformation, and sustainable development. We are looking for someone who can translate our strategic vision into tangible outcomes that benefit our communities and create pathways for positive change.
Ngā Kawenga Mātua | Key Responsibilities
- Champion health equity and whānau wellbeing across our communities
- Strategically grow our service portfolio while maintaining excellent contract delivery
- Forge powerful partnerships with iwi, stakeholders and Te Rūnaka o Awarua
- Implement innovative solutions addressing broader health determinants
- Lead ongoing organisational transformation while honouring our whakapapa
- Create sustainable systems enabling continued growth and development
- Inspire and develop our kaimahi to reach their full potential.
Ngā Pūkenga | About You
Based in Invercargill, we are looking for an exceptional leader with:
- Broad management and leadership experience ideally in health, social services or a related field
- An understanding of government contracting and commissioning processes
- Strong people leadership skills to further develop our dedicated kaimahi, supporting them through change
- Experience working with kaupapa Māori frameworks, ideally with competence in or the willingness to develop te reo Māori me tikanga Māori
- An authentic, approachable and collaborative leadership style
- A genuine commitment to our kaupapa and our communities
