Ko wai mātou? - Who are we?
Methodist Mission Northern, The Lifewise Trust (LIFEWISE) and Airedale Property Trust (APT) are three independent charitable trusts. While each Trust operates independently, the operation of each Trust is interdependent in order to work towards one vision of connected, just, and inclusive communities, in a way that honours the values of the Methodist Church.
There are 320 staff structured across 3 Trusts, 10 Services, and 11 sites. The Airedale Property Trust manages and protects the asset base of the Trusts so that support to the community can be provided now and in the future. Each Trust plays an integral role in fostering family and community resilience, whether it’s through working with people and families directly or providing the supporting finances and organisational infrastructure that makes the work possible.
Te āhua o Te Tūranga - The nature of the position
This newly established, pivotal leadership position - Pou Manukura Tiriti - Treaty Development Lead reports directly through to the Head of Mission. Methodist Mission Northern (MMN), with accountability to the CE’s of Lifewise and Airedale Property Trust.
Key to this position is working effectively with all parts of each organisation to ensure quality cultural practice is integrated into policy and practice. You will support or lead as required, designing culturally aligned practice systems, tools, frameworks, and standards. Participating in the development, design and roll out of Te Tiriti specific practice standards, guidance, and business processes, you will be ensuring best practice learnings are widely disseminated across each Trust and used to continually inform ongoing development and improvements.
Working to implement the Māori Strategic Plan, you will create opportunities for Māori staff, clients and whānau to influence policy and practice and provide cultural support to Trustees, staff, and volunteers. Supporting Board Trustees and Management to identify strategies that support Te Tiriti ō Waitangi responsibilities to funding providers and across communities, you will lead the review of all policies and practices using a Tiriti framework. A key influencer, you will work strategically to ensure all advice is anchored in tikanga practices designing, applying, and advising on Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti-based frameworks, linking the voice of Māori into policy, solution design and decision making.
Supporting the Methodist whakapapa, values, and commitment to Te Tiriti ō Waitangi, you will implement a Te Tiriti ō Waitangi self-audit process to advance the achievement of a bi-cultural practice across the three organisations. Promoting leadership in Māori practice models that support health and wellbeing, you will help to develop a training and development plan and oversee implementation. Enabling guidance for development and change, you will audit the bicultural practices of the three trusts focusing on the developmental needs of trustees, staff, and volunteers by supporting the use of te reo, tikanga, kawa and mātauranga Māori.
Developing meaningful relationships with Te Taha Māori, Mana Whenua and Mātāwaka to identify strategic plans that support both partners, you will grow relationships with key stakeholders to support funding options.
Ngā tino Pūkenga/Whēako - Essential skills/experiences for the role
Knowledge of Māori communities in Tāmaki Makaurau and Waiariki essential. Experience, skills, and knowledge required for application will also include;
- Confident speaker and translator of te reo Māori, able to provide leadership and the application of tikanga within multiple, diverse settings.
- Past experience in organisational development, the implementation of a strategic plan to deliver on organisational goals and priorities.
- Able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively to build relationships and engage with Māori and diverse communities, businesses, leaders, and individuals.
- Research and engagement skills to identify Māori community needs and advocate for change.
- The mana, and confidence to build meaningful, enduring relationships through trust, advocacy, and collaboration with Te Taha Māori, Mana Whenua and Mātāwaka.
- Displaying innovation, enthusiasm, and passion - you think outside of the box, and eager to find new ways to innovate and deliver.
- Policy and accurate report writing, with a financial skill to develop budgets.
