Purpose of the Position:
As Pou Tikanga Māori, you’ll Lead the implementation of NZC’s Māori Engagement Strategy (Te Ara Putanga), aligning with a Te Ao Māori worldview across all initiatives to ensure NZC embraces an equitable and inclusive working environment. You will collaborate closely with team members, the NZC Board, and external partners to strengthen NZC’s bicultural engagement within sport. This role will be integral in upskilling, instilling confidence and embedding Te Reo and Tikanga across the NZC network, including with key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Te Ao Māori:
- Educate on and support the use of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga within NZC’s communication, training, and public-facing content.
- Foster ongoing cultural competency across the organization, ensuring team members deepen their understanding and respect for Māori values and traditions
- Build strong relationships with Iwi, Māori agencies, and local communities to strengthen partnerships and enhance NZC's cultural initiatives.
- Work closely with our Community Team to develop programs that increase Māori participation in cricket at all levels.
- Advise on the development of culturally influenced apparel for NZC teams and continue evolving the use of Te Reo Māori in internal and external communication.
Pasifika Cricket:
- Lead the development and execution of a Pasifika engagement strategy, aimed at building stronger connections and increasing participation in cricket across Pasifika communities.
- Cultivate relationships with Pasifika agencies, cricket stakeholders, and ICC EAP (Oceania) countries to leverage opportunities for growth.
- Focus on increasing Pasifika involvement in playing, coaching, and leadership roles.
About You
You possess expertise in Te Ao Māori, tikanga Māori, and Te Reo Māori, with a proven track record of embedding these principles and cultural values within organisations or communities. Your experience in delivering cultural development programs and training is complemented by excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to engage diverse communities and influence stakeholders at all levels. You are passionate about advancing inclusion and creating an environment where all team members feel valued and empowered. Your commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace, promoting cultural understanding, and advocating for fairness and justice is unwavering.
